David Holmes, a director, received his Juris
Doctor degree, with honors, from Stetson University College
of Law in 1993. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Florida, where he completed programs in political
science and history. While in law school, Mr. Holmes participated
in trial advocacy competitions sponsored by the Association
of Trial Lawyers of America. He was Champion of the 1993
ATLA National Student Trial Advocacy Competition and also
received the American Jurisprudence Award for Scholarship
in Torts. Mr. Holmes is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary
Legal Fraternity and the Order of the Barrister.
He practices primarily in asset protection and civil litigation
with specialization in business, commercial and construction
disputes, corporate and business law, and real estate. In
the area of construction law, Mr. Holmes regularly represents
owners, general contractors, and lenders in connection with
commercial and residential construction projects and disputes.
He also regularly represents lenders and other creditors
in mortgage foreclosures and the enforcement and collection
of commercial debt obligations. Mr. Holmes is also certified
as a circuit court mediator by the Florida Supreme Court.
He is a member of The Florida Bar and the Charlotte County
Bar Association.
As an asset protection attorney, Mr. Holmes regularly assists
clients in identifying assets that are exposed to the risks
of litigation, and in implementing strategies for the protection
of those assets that are consistent with existing financial
and estate plans, including family limited partnerships and
asset protection trusts. He brings the unique perspective
of a litigation attorney to the field of asset protection
and has litigated a number of significant judgment enforcement,
collection, and bankruptcy matters. With his litigation experience,
Mr. Holmes stands ready to defend his clients' asset protection
plans in the event a lawsuit is filed. He also represents
business clients in the formation, organization and management
of business entities and in business and real estate transactions.
Mr. Holmes is a past member and director of the Rotary Club
of Port Charlotte and a past elder of Wintergarden Presbyterian
Church. He was active in the Charlotte County Chamber of
Commerce for several years and served as the organization's
president from 2002 to 2003. Mr. Holmes currently serves on the Florida
Gulf Coast University Charlotte Center Advisory Board, the
Tarpon Coast National Bank Punta Gorda Advisory Board, and
the board of directors of the Charlotte Community Foundation.
He was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of
Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.
